KOTA BARU: Kelantan police yesterday denied an allegation by a "Datuk", whose Facebook post went viral on Wednesday, that the force had failed to take action against gambling here.

The post claimed the alleged inaction in the state was embarrassing. In dismissing the claim, Kelantan police chief Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said police raided 85 gambling dens in the state and arrested 88 people between January and Sept 5.

"Those detained, aged between 30 and 40s, are being investigated for online gambling and lottery, that are classified under Section 4A and 4B of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

Most of the gambling operators were operating at any time of the day and were active at the back of premises to prevent detection by the authorities " he said at the state police contingent monthly assembly here yesterday.

Hasanuddin said the state's illegal gambling problem was under control..
